Credited to "Louis Philippe With Dean Brodrick", Rainfall
is something of a "concept" album, inasmuch the duettists
had previously agreed to use nothing but sounds that could be generated
by the piano and/or the human voice - percussions included! The sessions
took place at The Works, Chiswick, in January 1991, before it was
re-christened Chiswick Reach. The result is a highly experimental
album, albeit one with great sonic continuity. Two of the tunes were
written by Dean in collaboration with poet Ruskin Watts: The Metempsychosis
Song and The Corncircle Dance. Other writers drafted in
for this most unusual album were...Duke Ellington, Brian Wilson, and
Benjamin Britten. Rainfall sold all of its 5,000 pressed copies
and is unfortunately deleted.
